Breaking the Silence

This item was included in the October broadcast.
It is the second in the Ealing series, in which Debbie Golt interviews people from some of the community organisations in the London Borough of Ealing.

Breaking the Silence
For this second feature of our series reporting on women’s groups in Ealing, Debbie Golt met with three young women either working for or volunteering with Breaking the Silence, the FGM (Female Genital Mutilation) Project. The project is based between two community support agencies – Southall Community Alliance and Tallo Information Centre. The project involves education and outreach work with women of all ages – and also with men and boys, whose understanding is critical if things are to really change. They also link with a Somali girls night project.

The young women taking part in the discussion are Dheg, Bashira and Mumtaz, who spoke about their work, about issues around FGM and about their own lives as young Somali women in London. Debbie began by asking them to introduce themselves.
